Custom Packaging
For special projects, we're happy to work with you to develop a custom media package. Please take into account there is extra time and expense involved. Following are some examples of custom projects we've worked on.
Client: The Kora Records
Process: Offset
Inks: 1/0 and 2/0 (Pantone Inks)
Paper: Environment Cosmos Black, Chipboard
The Kora Records enjoy coming up with creative package ideas that can be enhanced with a choice of fine materials and straight forward print techniques. We worked with them to refine their concept for this 4-Panel Jacket which has a die cut window in the front, allowing the printed insert to show through. See www.thekorarecords.com to check out all the great music projects these folks have going on.
Client: Metro Regional Government
Process: Offset
Inks: 1/0 (Pantone Ink)
Paper: Chipboard
Portland's Metro Regional Services requested a protective mailer for the DVDs they send out on a regular basis, so we worked with them to design this chipboard package with peel off adhesive strips for the flap closure.
Client: VHF Records
Process: Offset
Inks: 2/0 Jacket, 1/0 Obi Spine Strip
Paper: Sundance Natural Felt, Environment Natural White
We're always pleased to work with VHF Records on anything they bring our way, but this triple disc folio was a special treat to work on. This release is a repress of two previous albums (circa 1995) with a bonus disc containing recordings from four 7" singles. The print is 2 color offset litho on a doublethick felt paper, with Phillip's Favorite style pockets for each disc. The final package contains an obi spine strip and protective poly wrap.
Client: Michael Eades
Process: Offset
Inks: 4/0 (Pantone Inks)
Paper: Environment White
Michael Eades provided this concept for his "Quick Potions" album, and we modified our existing square 4-Panel to include a cut-out of a beaker. His clean design aesthetics and inspirational music came together with our litho work to make a handsome looking release.
Design: Douglas McCombs / Sheila Sachs
Client: Mark Greenberg/Hi-Ball Recordings
Process: Offset
Inks: 3/0 (Pantone Inks)
Paper: Chipboard
We were honored to work with Mark Greenberg on this project to repress the Brokeback "Another Routine Day" EP in three colors, maintaining the custom die cut. Pantone colors were custom mixed to create a bit more opacity on our chipboard stock, and the sleeves were cut in small batches for accuracy.
Design: Will Work for Good
Client: RVNG Intl.
Process: Offset
Inks: 1/0 (Pantone Ink)
Paper: Exact Opaque Pink, French Muscletone Black
Rvng Intl approached us with the idea of creating a Smithsonian Folkways style package for this series of 12" LP releases. With budget and durability both in mind, we decided on a package where the 1 color wrap is laminated to a standard black paper sleeve. A few limited edition leatherette covers are also assembled as part of each release, and all pieces are hand adhered. See all the FRKWYS series at www.igetrvng.com/discography
Diesign: Will Work for Good
Client: RVNG Intl.
Process: Offset
Inks: 1/0 (Pantone Ink)
Paper: Kraft Duplex
This is the first in an ongoing series of re-issues by the Rvng label (ReRvng). We worked with the designer to fit their design to our materials, with the tabs enlarged to allow for an area to label the release& catalog number, and glued to the outside. Designer: Nicole Lavelle
Client: Jen Delos Reyes & Kerri-Lynn Reeves
Process: Offset + Custom Diecut
Inks: 1/0 and 2/1 (Pantone Inks)
Paper: French Sno-Cone, Environment White
This project involved modifying a standard 12" sleeve with the shape of the province of Manitoba, Canada cut out of the front. An offset printed duotone light-weight insert was designed to slip inside and show through the die cut window.
Design: Arena Rock
Client: Arena Rock Recording Company
Process: Offset
Inks: 1/0 (Pantone Ink)
Paper: Chipboard
Designed to replicate the pet rock packaging of the 1970's, each box does indeed contain a rock on its very own bedding. A brilliant promotional idea for this record label. Visit them online at www.arenarockrecordingco.com.
Design: Noel Waggener Design
Client: Revenent Records
Process: Offset
Inks: 2/0
Paper: French Safety Orange 80#C
Revenant Records gracefully coordinates designers and printers all over the country to create outstanding custom packaging. We can only take credit for printing the bands that wrap this box, but we are certainly proud of our contribution.
Design: Rob Jones
Client: Jealous Butcher Records
Process: Offset & Letterpress
Inks: 2/1Jacket, 1/0 Sticker
Paper: Classic Crest Tarragon 80#C, Freelife Felt 100#C
This is a creation where the printing and die-cutting were just a tiny part of the package; once we handed it off to the band, they glued, hand-sewed, and sealed each cover to complete the design.
Design: Stumptown Printers
Client: John Henry Bourke
Process: Offset & Letterpress
Inks: 1/0 Jackets, 2/0 Stickers, 1/1 Booklet, 1/0 Box
Paper: Synergy Felt 130#C
Finishing: Machine Numbering
John Henry Bourke is a Song Writer, Post Man, Dreamer, Baseball Fan & Fellow ex-Ohio-an. This limited edition set compiles his years of songwriting and includes a personalized collage in each package.
Client: K Records
Process: Offset
Inks: 4/0
Paper: CCNB
K Records came to us with the request to slightly modify our existing 6-Panel 2x Pocket CD jacket so that two discs could be inserted in the outer pockets. With a little adjustment to the spines and tabs we did just that.
Design: Noel Waggener Design
Client: Revenent Records
Process: Letterpress & Offset
Inks: 2/0 Jacket, 1/1 Booklet
Paper: 18pt. Chipboard, French Newsprint 80#T
John Fahey kicked around Portland a bit back in the day, so the honor of printing his last recordings right here seemed proper. The package is a sturdy chipboard cover with a booklet insert resembling an old religious tract.
Project: Gregor Samsa Custom 4-Panel
Client: The Kora Records
Process: Offset
Inks: 1/0 and 2/0 (Pantone Inks)
Paper: Environment Cosmos Black, Chipboard
